SUMMARY: Nobody has done more harm to the Dharma in the west, and to Yoga, than the "Bhagwan" of Antelope, Oregon. As "Rajneesh" he misled and messed up the lives of thousands of good and idealistic youth. Offered free sex and the indulgence in all pleasures to impressionable young men and women, in  an atmosphere of esoteric spirituality. Destroyed all cultural and moral structure of his young followers -- some of the best of the 60's and 70's generation -- and left them sex addicts with messed up lives and little realization. Offered vague and watered down quasi-yoga pulled from a variety of sources. Had terrible health and allergies, was addicted to many drugs, and heavily addicted to nitrous oxide. (Hardly the traits of an "enlightened master.")  His followers perpetrated the first mass biological attack on U.S. soil and his closest followers were imprisoned for poisonings and conspiracy. Osho/Rajneesh was kicked out of the U.S., was unwelcome back in India (from which he fled because of original trouble with the authorities). He wandered the world for a while, denied entrance to country after country. Since his  name change to Osho his followers still push him as a "spiritual master," publish his books full of crass diatribes, and operate an expensive pleasure resort in Puna, India. Thousands -- even millions -- of people in America are now confused about basic spiritual and moral realities because of Osho. His followers were left with messed up family lives and health, and little mystical progress. In one of Osho's grossest insults to dharma, he had his followers call themselves "sannyasins" though they pursue the very opposite life of a sannyasin. (What defines the sannyasin is renunciation and moral purity). Osho set back Yoga in the west hundreds of years, if not thousands. He dirtied the names of the saints and grossly misrepresented India. Though he has no place among saints, he certainly has a place in the annals of the world's most scurrilious charlatans.

SUMMARY: The most egregious ripoff of India to come along. Even worse that Osho,
though he has had a very limited influence. Criminal violation of all cannons of moral and
yogic behaviour. His books are all rambling gibberish. At this point his health is in decline,
his mind is mostly gone, and his community is a complete joke.
 

mafu Penny Torres, aka "Mafu," now alias "Swami Paramananda Saraswatti" SUMMARY: First a "Ramtha" clone (Ramtha is a disembodied spirit who allegedly possesses a Montana woman, J.Z. Knight), now "Mafu" has morphed into a Gurumayi wannabe. Said to be a former Playboy Bunny, this cutiepie started out as an absurd "channeler" of an "ascended master" called "Mafu."  With pretty looks, the channeling shtick, and lots of vague "new age" blather Torres was able to assemble a small following of naive people around her in Ashland, Oregon -- mostly female of course. Getting the scent of the greater glamour found in Indian guruhood, she now poses as an Indian "swami" complete with orange robes of the renunciant and the "guru reception line." Her house in Ashland is now called the "ashram," and a glimpse of Torres/Mafu is termed darshan. In reality the ancient swami orders of Sankara do not admit women.   Ride-em-Cowboy: Channeler J.Z. Knight with Pipe A new line a couple of years back was that Mafu and Penny Torres are now becoming one. Interestingly, her talk as "swami" is as embarassing and inarticulate as her spirit possessor "Mafu," who is now being forced into retirement. (By the way, no genuine swami would play host to a disembodied spirit, and no "ascended master" would possess another's body to teach down below.) Her organization now puts out windblown video clips of Torres, ala Gurumayi of SYDA Yoga. In one creepy clip she kisses a bald-headed man in her "guru reception line," maternally planting a kiss on his forhead, then noodling about nose-to-nose. Hardly the  behaviour of a yogic swami. Just another out-of-control female on a sex-and-power trip, sowing  spiritual confusion in the world. Posts by former followers tell more about the antics of this corrupt "teacher" Generally  absurd "channelers" do not merit inclusion on FakeGuru.com. But now that Torres is ripping off India and the Swami Order, she is violating holy ground. Torres/Mafu is a truly digusting affront to the dignity and the purity of Sankara's ancient swami order, and another fine case of the tendency of women  to degrade  traditions and  eternal Dharmic standards.  All channelers belong to the kindergarten of spiritual search -- or the dank cellar. And no one could be more deeply disqualified for guruhood than the "channeler" -- who allows her body to be used by a discarnate spirit of unverifiable provenance, acquiring no knowledge of her own in the conscious state, and offering  her followers no wholesome path for replication -- save the unconscious fragmentation of channelhood. To see a channeler mixed up with India and monkhood is a mordant atrocity of the first rank. Thankfully for the Dharma, Torres' negligible influence is already on the wane and her enterprise is sinking into predictable chaos. By recent  reports Torres  uses crack and flies into rages, often beating her disciples. SUMMARY: Bitter  old man who appealed to cynics in the 60's and 70's by rejecting the basics of spiritual development,
such as meditation technique, austerities, and the guru principle. Though he gained fame by mocking the guru principle,
he proceeded to spend his  whole  life as a sour guru with little to offer but intellectualism and word jugglery. Had an illicit affair
with the wife of his chief sponsor. Probably the victim of homosexual pedophilia by his handler Leadbeater. No sign of realization,
no satvic qualities, just a lot of intellectual philosophizing with a mean attitude. Claimed no techniques exist for meditation or spiritual
advancement. This confused countless sincere young people and retarded the progress. Also accounts for his lack of spiritual development
